Halo Or Helmet Canvas Print

'Halo Or Helmet'....After the painting, 'The Madonna di Senigallia' by the Italian Renaissance master Piero della Francesca, finished around 1474. It is housed in the Galleria Nazionale delle Marche, in the Ducal Palace of Urbino, Italy.

While examining the original, painted in 1474, the visitor on the left with the feather appeared to be sporting a space helmet! On closer examination, it turned out to be his gray frizzy hairdo! I just could not pass up this juicy anachronism. Maybe all those halos actually WERE medieval attempts at depicting visitors from off planet?....shades of Erich Anton Paul von D�niken....

Wyeth who lived in Needham and donated the paintings he used for books and magazines to the Needham Public Library. They have a great collection of his artwork there now. This is where I would go to immerse myself in his artwork and the artwork of all the book illustrators. Ludwig Bemelmans became another of my favorites and so I became a watercolorist and muralist at an early age. I spent my high school years taking Saturday classes at Mass College of Art in Boston and spent quite a bit of time in the art department at Needham High School...
